  • The November and December council meetings are cancelled due to conflicting schedules over the holiday season. I'll be reviewing the current setup and consider a new format starting January to help streamline access for therapists to join these meetings.

What's your relationship with fear?

Last week at the Therapist Integration council meeting we spent some time openly exploring fear. As therapists working in the psychedelic integration space, we acknowledged how fear can impact how we show up for clients and how we navigate conversations about the role of psychedelics within a treatment plan.

Some therapists shared their fears about moving beyond current ethical/legal guidelines, while others recognized how operating from a place of fear goes against their ethos and challenges their ability to stay grounded and present with their clients.

Together, we explored the implications of power and the importance of being thoughtful and patient as we learn about the powerful substances being used for therapeutic purposes and how they can impact clients - respecting that power can go both ways, and naivety can be harmful. We also discussed the power of the field of psychology and how important it is to honor and respect power so as not to cause harm or abuse power inadvertently.

Finally, we discussed the roles of therapists and guides, and the various ways therapists are navigating the nuanced context around fear, power, and ethics. It was a great conversation.

I'm grateful

These conversations make me incredibly grateful for this community we're building here. I know I've learned a lot already and hope others can say the same. If you've shown up for a council meeting, thank you! If you haven't yet, I hope you will consider joining us in the new year. 🙏

I am truly grateful for each of you. I'm excited we get to share this space while acknowledging the intersection of our traditional psychology models with the sacred therapeutic potential of plant medicines and indigenous healing practices.

Holidays are upon us

Regardless of what sort of religion or traditions you follow, this time of year tends to be a season of rest for most of us. The days are darker, the air is colder (and wetter for a lot of us), and extra time is made for rest, relaxation, and time with family.

As a result, I'll be taking some extra time off over November and December and will be postponing the monthly council meetings until January. I'll plan to send a couple of emails with new information and updates, but will otherwise respect your inbox and hope to see you in January!

Until next time,

Chris
