This month we had therapists representing New York, California, Virginia, and Washington state! We had some good conversation, mostly around psychedelic applications for treatment resistant depression and ways therapists understand and navigate the underground psychedelic scene.
As I've written about in the past, there's a diverse range of perspectives and risk tolerances with therapists working in or around underground practices. From the conservative approach of not interacting with underground guides at all, to the other end of the spectrum being therapists providing underground work themselves - and everything in between.
We struck a balance between honoring the work underground therapists have been doing since the 1960's (which inform most major trainings today), while also honoring the lower risk tolerance many licensed therapists have. If your tolerance for risk is as low as mine, know that your willingness to jump into the space to support clients through the harm-reduction and integration approach is still incredibly valued and needed in this space!
We had a few TI members try to join but weren't able due to technical issues that I accidentally created for us. I've identified and fixed the issue, so next month should go smoother. Sorry about that, you know who you are! I'll be sure to share the specific Zoom details in the September event reminder, but also good to add to your calendar: 9/20 @ 10am PST/1pm EST
The American Psychedelic Practitioners Association (APPA) published guidelines this month for Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy. APPA's mission is to support the integration of psychedelic-assisted therapy into the United States healthcare system. To that end, these guidelines provide general recommendations for practitioners of psychedelic-assisted therapy to increase their awareness, knowledge, and skills. Read the guidelines here.
