How to Market Your Approach to Psychedelic Therapy?

I had a chance this winter to sit down with Avivit Fisher, owner of REdD Strategy and creator of the Therapy Business Brief newsletter. An experienced marketer, her work provides marketing and business coaching for therapists in private practice.

I always appreciate when other professionals focus on supporting therapists and the mental health space. I wanted to learn more about the outcomes therapists can expect working with her. I was also curious what kind of considerations she’d have for therapists who include psychedelic harm reduction and integration therapy in their practice.

I think you’ll enjoy what she had to say. Have a look at the interview below, in which Avivit answers those questions and more!

Can you tell me a bit about your marketing consultancy? Who do you work with primarily?

My consultancy, REdD Strategy, provides marketing services for therapists. As a marketing coach, I help practice owners attract private pay clients. My clients range from first-time practice owners who are just launching their businesses to more seasoned providers who want to grow their practice or transition from insurance panels.

What is your ‘why’? What motivates you to keep showing up for therapists the way you do?

While I was looking for support, I saw the gap between what I was searching for as a client and the way therapists presented their services. As a client, I was focused on getting help for a specific problem but was not educated enough about mental health to understand what I needed. I was confused by the professional jargon and I had a tough time finding someone who was a good fit for me. I realized that there were many people like myself, looking for help but not knowing what they needed. On the other hand, therapists don't get the marketing education they need to connect with a wider audience and position their services in an approachable way.
My work as a marketer bridges the gap between therapists and potential clients. It helps people find help faster and for providers to attract clients who are a good fit for them and their practice. I love the fact that I can help speed up the healing process for so many using the knowledge and the tools that I have.

If you were consulting with a therapist who includes psychedelic harm reduction and integration therapy in their practice, what are some unique marketing considerations you’d focus on with them?

I think most people are not educated on integration therapy and how it can help them. If the goal is to attract clients who would be good candidates for this therapy, I would focus on content creation that educates and explains the potential positive outcomes of such therapy. I would recommend focusing on building a brand that promotes your expertise on this topic, similar to what you're doing in your newsletter.
It's important to remember that many of us don't follow the latest developments in the mental health space. People need to learn about the topic and understand how it's relevant to their lives and problems before they seek out this solution.

What are some of the outcomes you’ve helped your clients achieve?

Mostly, my clients work with me because they need to build a reliable system to consistently fill their caseload. I've helped my clients define the niche for their practice that fulfills them professionally and allows them to achieve their financial goals. Specifically, I helped clients launch their practices, attract new leads, and even fill the caseloads for their employees.
I once had a client who hired me 3 months before she officially opened her practice and by the time she launched, her caseload was 75% full. She did a lot of marketing work ahead of her start date and she was able to have a profitable practice from day one.

Do you have anything new planned for your consultancy in 2024?

Yes! I'm actually in the process of creating my first online course, Private Pay Pathway that launches on January 29th. Throughout the years of working with so many therapists, I've put together a process that's helped my clients understand marketing and get confident promoting their services. This process helped my clients consistently attract new clients. In fact, many of my clients confessed that they started enjoying marketing because they were finally able to connect the dots between different tactics and see results.

Before we go, what is your long-term vision in supporting therapist marketing efforts?

I'd love to make marketing education much more accessible for therapists. Therapists don't need a very complicated strategy to be successful in private practice because the need is there. My goal is to have a large library of marketing and business content that will help more therapists build their practices on their terms.

Well there you have it. I hope you were able to glean some insight from Avivit to help you as you think about marketing your practice.
